The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) held a Flood Risk Open House on May 10th in Friday Harbor addressing the new flood insurance rate mapping process. Newly released preliminary flood maps provide updated flood hazard areas along the coastlines of San Juan County and the Town of Friday Harbor. FEMA, Washington State Department of Natural Resources, Washington State Department of Ecology and San Juan County representatives were available to discuss the revisions and impact to citizens. A brief presentation outlined the flood study update to attendees. Staff assisted attendees at five information stations with their questions regarding the update.
