The San Juan County Fair is excited to announce the collaborative creation of Grace Brown and Kristine Brown of San Juan Island. Their interpretation of the 2018 theme "Rockin' the Salish Sea" was chosen by the Fair Board as the 2018 Poster! Read more about the inspiration behind the design below.
Grace Brown, Artist
Grace has been interested in art since before she can even remember, though, she's have never had any formal training. She has kept art apart of her lifeas much as she can, taking every opportunity to practice. This has allowed her togrow despite her lack of education in that area. Her art is mostly black andwhite and uses fineliner pens to create small detailed designs within largerpictures or shapes. She was so inspired by the theme of the Fair “Rockin’ theSalish Sea” because she immediately thought “WHALE!” which fits so wonderfullyinto her style of art and into life in the San Juans.
Kristine Brown, Graphics
When her daughter-in-law Grace decided to submit her art for theFair she asked if Kristine could help with the background and typeface selections. After years of helping other island artists with their posters, Kristine was excitedto spend the time collaborating with someone dear to her. In between buildingher tiny home in her yard and coming in to get warm, Grace directed Kristine's digitalefforts and she loves how it fits this year’s theme. How often can an Orca whalebe the star of a county fair poster?
Prints of this poster will be available to business owners who are willing to post the poster in their business the month of August, and prints will also be available by donation to members of the public before and during the Fair event in the Fair Administration office.
