Deadline is February 8 for 2010 ADU Permit Lottery Entries

The deadline for submitting construction or conversion applications for detached Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU), popularly called “guest houses”, is the close of the business day on February 8, 2010.

The number of ADU permits available each year is based on a formula involving the number of permits issued during the previous year for the construction of new homes outside of activity centers and urban growth areas. This year, 1 conversion permit and 8 new ADU construction permits are available. To qualify for a conversion permit, the structure involved must have legally existed for at least 5 years

Completed application forms can be mailed or filed in person at the Community Development & Planning (DP&P) office during normal business hours at 135 Rhone Street, PO Box 947, Friday Harbor, Washington. Applications may also be submitted by fax at: (360) 378 3922. No electronic applications will be accepted and all applications must be submitted on the CD&P ADU lottery application form.
