San Juan county has more shoreline than any other county in the state. The Sheriff's Office has the dual responsibility for law enforcement on both land and on water. The San Juan County Sheriff's Office has a state-certified boating program.
The Sheriff's Office utilizes three vessels for patrol, search and rescue, transportation of arrested individuals, and other departmental business. Deputies are certified through a 40-hour Law Enforcement Boating Officers Course co-sponsored by the Criminal Justice Training Center and Washington State Parks and Recreation.
