Shaw Island

***UPDATE 7/6/20***

San Juan County Parks will be operating at 50% capacity through at least 7/16/20. We do not have a date for opening at 100% capacity.

If you have a reservation and your campsite is closed on your reserved dates due to our limited operating capacity, you will be refunded in full. If your campsite is open during our limited operating capacity, and you would like to cancel, our standard cancellation policy will apply.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations made 30 or more days in advance of the first reserved night will result in a 25% cancellation fee for all reserved nights (25% of the paid campsite fees); 72 hours through 29 days, a 50% fee; less than 3 days is non-refundable. The reservation fee is non-refundable. Per our camping policy, reservations cannot be transferred to future dates nor transferred to open sites. At this time, full refunds will be processed only for sites that were closed while our campgrounds were operating at 50% capacity. Campsite closure refunds will be processed as soon as possible, and we appreciate your patience. You will receive an email confirmation once your refund has been processed. When San Juan County is able to move into phase III of the WA “Safe Start” reopening plan, and can operate at 100% camping capacity, all reservations will be honored, and we will notify reservation holders that all campsites are open.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

About the Island

Members of a local order of nuns operated the ferry landing at Shaw Island every day for over 27 years, rain or shine. They've now moved on, and new faces greet ferry travelers.

Aside from narrow, empty roads and Arcadian beauty, a small grocery store at the landing, and one park and campground at sandy Shaw County Park, Shaw Island has no commercial amenities. Shaw has an area of 7.7 square miles. Population is 165.

Shaw County Park - Camping

The park is open year 'round! From March-October 15, the camping reservation system is in effect and reservations are recommended for camping in April-October. Hammock tents are allowed only in campsites #2-5, 7, 8, & 10. During winter (November 1-March 31), all sites are on a first-come, first-served basis only and fees and services are reduced. Note: during winter, there is no drinking water available at Shaw County Park. Firewood is not guaranteed to be available (we sometimes have a difficult time sourcing seasoned wood!); check at Park office.

Due to the small size of Shaw Park, RVs or trailers are not advised. Vehicles up to 20 feet in length and 9 feet in height (total dimensions, including bumpers, bike racks, spare tires, roof pods/racks, and pop-up roof) are accepted in the designated parking space for each campsite; parking space may not be level. Please plan accordingly.
