San Juan County Health & Community Services plans for and trains to respond to emergencies or disasters of any nature, both as an independent agency and as part of a coordinated community response. Staff work and train with the Department of Emergency Management and various community partners (hospital, fire/ems departments, and local pharmacies) to develop strategies for addressing likely public health and community wellness impacts of such events. Impacts that may result from a disaster include, but are not limited to, contaminated food or water supplies, exposure to communicable diseases, or increased behavioral health needs.
Individuals and families can help with emergency preparedness and response by being prepared. San Juan County Department of Emergency Management and the Washington State Department of Health have helpful handouts and information available to assist in residents in these efforts.
