Lopez Island Hosts ‘Elected Officials Meet and Greet’
The third “Meet Your Elected Officials” event of the year offers the public an opportunity to meet and chat with those in office. Two events have been held on San Juan and Orcas Island, with the final event of the series scheduled for Saturday March 11th on Lopez Island. Located at the Lopez Community Center (204 Village Rd, Lopez Village) from 1:15pm-2:15pm.
Council Makes SRKW Proclamation
During the February 7 meeting, Council members unanimously approved a proclamation urging State and Federal governments to deepen their commitment to restoring the bounty of the Salish Sea. The proclamation acknowledges the cultural, spiritual, and economic importance of the Southern Resident Killer Whales to the people of San Juan County, the Salish Sea, the State of Washington, and the world. It recognizes “the survival of SRKW is dependent upon healthy and functioning ecosystems,” and values the ability of the SRKW “to have the right to life, culture, free and safe passage, adequate food supply and freedom from conditions causing physical, emotional, or mental harm.”
Answers to Frequently Asked Questions About the Town to Zylstra Lake Shared-Use Trail
San Juan County is eager to begin developing a plan for a shared-use trail connecting the Town of Friday Harbor to the County-owned Zylstra Lake Preserve on San Juan Island. Recently awarded $5.28 million in federal transportation funds, the County is beginning the project by answering frequently asked questions, moving forward with preliminary project scoping, and accepting public input on the project web page.
The project is in the very early, conceptual stages of development and the public will have multiple opportunities to come together and provide feedback and input. You’re Invited to a Launch Party!
The Health and Community Services (HCS) Department is hosting a launch party for the new Luci B Community Wellness Van: the full capabilities of the Health Department in a mobile package. Luci B is fully equipped to meet community public health needs. Come join HCS for the Launch Party on Wednesday, March 15 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm at the San Juan County Fairgrounds to see the van’s unveiling and learn more about the project. County Unveils New, Interactive Web Platform: ‘Engage San Juan County’
‘Engage San Juan County’ is a platform launched by the County to gather feedback, discuss topics, and inform the public about important policy, planning, programs, and projects taking shape in the San Juan Islands. This engagement platform, engage.sanjuancountywa.gov, provides a variety of tools that make it easy for islanders to voice their opinions, participate in community decisions, and provide ideas and feedback on a variety of topics affecting their community.
